This 5-day writing workshop aims to draft an agenda-setting manuscript around the MMM5 theme of Mangroves and People. To prepare for the workshop and get us all thinking about the objectives, applicants will be required to answer two questions:

1. What topics do you think we should tackle at this writing workshop?

2. What expertise and datasets do you have to contribute to this topic?



SGD 600 for shared chalet Or SGD 800 for single chalet (4 available)

**Cost includes transport between Singapore and Pulau Tioman, accommodation and most meals. It does not include drinks or activities during the free time.**

Sunday 7th July

AM– leave Bugis early morning (~0600),

arrive Pulau Tioman lunchtime

PM– intro to workshop


Monday 8th July

AM– workshop

PM– workshop, mangrove tour


Tuesday 9th July

AM– workshop

PM– free afternoon


Wednesday 10th July

AM– workshop

PM– free afternoon



Thursday 11th July

AM– workshop wrap up

PM– leave Pulau Tioman lunchtime,

 arrive Singapore early evening




  • This workshop will be held in Malaysia, not Singapore. This workshop is only available for those who have a valid visa to enter Malaysia via land. Unfortunately, the MMM5 organizers cannot assist you with visas if your nationality requires one to enter Malaysia.

  • By signing up to this workshop you are committing to an extensive amount of work both before and after the trip, so that outcomes discussed during the workshop are produced in a timely fashion. Please bear this in mind when signing up for the workshop.

  • MMM5 conference participants only are eligible to participate.
    Please complete your conference registration early.

  • Confirmation of participation is subjected to payment being received.
    There will be no refund for cancellation/withdrawal by registrants.
    But if due to lack of numbers, the workshop is cancelled, conference will refund the paid fee.

  • Please note that insurance is not included in the workshop and participants are responsible for their own insurance.

  • Participants agree to indemnify MMM5 against any claims as arising from injury or loss sustained during the workshop.
